What it does

finlight is a financial news API that returns articles with sentiment and the companies and tickers they mention, for example to feed a trading dashboard or a news alert. Searches are POST calls with a JSON body and an X-API-KEY header, and the answers are JSON. Free with a free API key for 5,000 requests a month, with news 12 hours late; WebSocket streams, webhooks and real-time news are on paid plans. An official MCP server at https://mcp.finlight.me lets AI agents search the articles.

Example request

curl

curl -X POST 'https://api.finlight.me/v2/articles' \
  -H 'X-API-KEY: YOUR_API_KEY' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"query": "Apple"}'

JavaScript

const response = await fetch("https://api.finlight.me/v2/articles", {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    "X-API-KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY",
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({"query":"Apple"}),
});
const data = await response.json();
console.log(data);

Python

import requests

response = requests.post(
    "https://api.finlight.me/v2/articles",
    headers={
        "X-API-KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY",
        "Content-Type": "application/json",
    },
    json={
        "query": "Apple",
    },
    timeout=30,
)
print(response.json())

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your own key. The JavaScript works in a web page as well as in Node.js 18 or newer.
