Media Cloud is an open-source news archive for research, with more than 200 million online news stories that can be searched and counted by query, date, source and collection, for example to measure how often a topic appeared in the news. Requests are GET calls with an Authorization token header, and the answers are JSON; there is an official Python client. Free with a free account and API key.

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your own key. Run the JavaScript on a server, such as Node.js 18 or newer: this API does not accept calls from web pages on other sites.
